What to look for

Calcium HMB is the standard form. Most HMB supplements use calcium HMB (CaHMB), which is the form used in the majority of clinical research. It's available as both powder and capsules. Unless you have a specific reason to seek out HMB free acid, calcium HMB is the safe default.
