Evidence is moderate for two specific outcomes: small reductions in blood pressure and LDL cholesterol at 1-8g/day. The broader claims around energy, detoxification, immunity, and weight loss don't have strong research behind them despite being the main marketing hooks. Two practical things to know. Confirm that the Supplement Facts panel quantifies spirulina or Arthrospira platensis and not an unquantified greens blend. Labels reviewed for this update included pure organic powders, Hawaiian spirulina tablets, whole-plant powder labels, and one packet where general ingredients implied other greens while Supplement Facts quantified only spirulina.
Cost is mostly shaped by powder versus tablet convenience, serving size, container count, and specialty positioning such as blue spirulina or food-coloring use. Plain bulk powders were the cheapest sampled products, while small specialty powders were much more expensive at the comparison dose.
Do not pay a spirulina price for a vague detox or greens blend unless the spirulina amount is plainly listed.
